The City of Bridgeport got an early start to Juneteenth festivities on Saturday.

Juneteenth is the annual celebration that marks the end of slavery.

Revelers kicked things off with a ceremony at the Morton Government Center.

Participants said it feels great to honor such an important milestone in American history.

Organizers said the theme of this year's celebration focused on resistance, freedom and legacy.
