A Shelton man has been charged with killing a cat.
Krzystof Bakota, 47, was arrested Friday and charged with malicious killing of an animal.
Bakota's arrest comes after Shelton police received a report from a family member who told authorities she left her kitten in Bakota's care while she was away.
Bakota told her the kitten went missing.
The kitten was later found dead in a backyard by another family member.
Police say Bakiota admitted to his family that he killed the kitten because the animal was annoying him, so he threw the kitten against a table and then off the back deck.
The kitten was taken to UConn Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory for an autopsy, which found the animal had multiple skull fractures with marked hemorrhage.
The cause of death was due to trauma to the left body wall and pulmonary hemorrhage, officials say.
Bakota's bond was set at $25,000.
Bakota was expected to be arraigned at Derby Superior Court Friday.
