Bridgeport
fire officials say 23 people, including two children, were displaced after a
fire ripped through their multifamily home.
The fire broke out in the 1700 block of Central Avenue just after
midnight Thursday.
Officials say six homes in a row are attached to each other.
They say the fire started on the first floor of one of the homes then spread to
the top floor. The flames then spread through the walls to the rest of the
homes.
Officials say everyone inside made it out safely before fire
crews arrived.
Kristin Medina, who lives nearby, says she and her neighbor
helped the tenants keep warm as firefighters knocked down the blaze.
"We saw that there were young children. She had sons of her
own, so she grabbed clothes and hats and stuff," Medina said. "And I
grabbed a whole bunch of snacks for them."
Officials say the American Red Cross is helping some of the
displaced tenants. Others are staying with family members.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
