Officials in Fairfield held a news conference Wednesday to remind the public of the importance of Connecticut's 'Move Over Law.'

Connecticut State Police partnered with the Fairfield Fire and Police departments, members of the Department of Transportation, American Medical Response personnel, and AAA Northeast.

Officials urged the public that if they see an emergency vehicle, DOT truck or wrecker with its emergency lights on to slow down and move over one lane if it is safe to do so.

The law was enacted in 2009, but state police say many drivers still don't know about it.

First responders say they are adding more lights on their trucks to help drivers see them.

Connecticut State Police trooper Gregory Sawicki was seriously hurt while responding to a call on the shoulder of I-95 in Fairfield last week.

His cruiser was mangled after state police say a driver veered off the left lane and hit it while Sawicki was inside.

He was released from the hospital two days later with several fractured ribs and a leg injury.

In 2010, a trooper was struck and killed by a car while responding to a call.
