With the start of school around the corner, one Bronx parent is asking the city to make sure her child's walk to school is a bit safer this year.
The road at East 174th Street and Manor Avenue is a three-way intersection with cars turning in different directions. Priscilla Rivera says she and other residents on the block are concerned about students who will be crossing the busy road when school starts.
There are three nearby schools, a busy bus stop and a huge housing development on East 174th, but no crossing guard to help children and the elderly get safely across the street. Rivera has reached out to Assemblyman Marcos Crespo to help improve pedestrian safety in the area.
Rivera and other parents say for now they will be holding their children's hands a little tighter when school starts on Sept. 4.
News 12 The Bronx reached out to the NYPD about the parents' concerns, but have not yet heard back.
