A Milford lawmaker said Wednesday that she's working to make the streets safer for pedestrians following a series of accidents, including one recent incident that left a woman fighting for her life.
Rep. Kim Rose says she is now working with the Milford Police Department and the state Department of Transportation to make the area along Bridgeport Avenue between I-95 and the Devon Bridge.
She says there have been 17 car crashes, four of them fatal, over the past 10 years. Just recently, a little boy was hit while on his way to school.
One change Rose hopes to make is lengthening the lights in the area. She says changes may take a long time because they are going to involve studies, but that safety is the top priority. She says she hopes to get some of the faded crosswalks repainted in the next few months.
