Residents at a housing complex in Bridgeport are enraged after a massive rupture Sunday night in the 75-year-old heating system they have been complaining about.
Fire crews were called after a pipe to the boiler tank burst, sending several feet of water into the boiler room and spilling out onto the streets at Success Village.
Residents tell News 12 that they awoke Monday morning, which was unseasonably cold, without heat and hot water. Officials say more than 900 apartments were affected.
Residents say the boilers are too old and that there were a number of problems last winter. They are demanding a new heating system, but management says it's too expensive.
Crews were working all Monday to fix the pipes.
The board president says the boilers were inspected Friday, right before the pipe broke. She says all of them will be working this winter.
