Police in Orange say three men from Bridgeport are facing multiple charges after a melee ensued in a crowded restaurant last weekend.
Officers responded to multiple 911 calls regarding a large melee at the Chip's Family Restaurant on Boston Post Road. The incident happened during the longtime restaurant's breakfast rush Saturday morning.
Police say Joel Martinez, Abner Morales and Matthew Sawyer were causing a disturbance by being loud, using inappropriate language and being disrespectful toward staff. They say the men became irate when customers asked them to quiet down, causing the trio to throw some punches and flip a table. That table allegedly landed on an elderly patron and a small child.
News 12 is told that an off-duty officer from another community was in the restaurant with his family at the time and intervened until authorities arrived.
Police say there were about 100 patrons inside the restaurant during the incident, but the situation was quickly handled.
All three men involved have been charged with breach of peace and risk of injury to a minor.
