Police say they have in custody the suspected hit-and-run driver that killed an East Norwalk man along Route 8 in Trumbull Tuesday.
Troopers say the man was arrested at JFK airport in New York Thursday morning as he was about to board a plane to El Salvador. The arrest comes less than 36 hours after 50-year-old John Burr was killed.
Burr?s family says the arrest brings some comfort. The close-knit family has asked for privacy, but was able to speak to News 12 Connecticut briefly. John Burr is described as someone who always put his family first.
State police spent Wednesday along Route 8 searching for clues and received a tip about a vehicle with front-end damage located in Bridgeport. Police took the car in as evidence and say the tip enabled them to catch the suspected driver just in time.
Troopers say the driver lived in Bridgeport, but they haven't released his name.
A funeral will be held for Burr at Christ Episcopal Church in Norwalk on Saturday.
