Woodbridge police found a man’s body in the middle of Rimmon Road between Deer Run and Robin roads Wednesday morning, according to authorities.
Police did not immediately clarify whether a crime occurred there or if the body had been dumped at the location. Rimmon Road remained closed into the evening for the investigation.
The Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Squad is helping with the investigation.
Neighbor Michael Berkley said that he thought he heard gunshots near the area within the hour before police arrived.
He said he assumed it was a car backfiring, but later realized something was going on when he heard several sirens.
The police activity led to a shelter in place order at Amity Regional High School, but police say there was no immediate danger to the school. The shelter in place order was lifted as of 11:10 a.m.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is expected to identify the victim and pinpoint a cause of death.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to call the Woodbridge Police Department at 203-872-511.
