A Bridgeport man accused of attempting
to murder his ex- wife on the morning of Dec. 23, 2025 was brought back to Bridgeport on Wednesday.
The Bridgeport man hid in the trunk of his ex-wife's car and attempted to shoot her as she drove to work.
The bullet narrowly missed his ex-wife, only hitting the windshield of the car.
Joao Victor Borges- De Queiroz then fled to the Canadian Border where he was captured by United States Customs and Border Patrol after trying to cross into Canada on Dec 24, 2025.
De Queiroz was arraigned in Bridgeport on the following charges: criminal attempt at murder, criminal attempt at first-degree assault, first-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree stalking, third-degree assault, and carrying a pistol without a permit.
Bridgeport Supreme Court judge Charles Stango increased De Queiroz's bond from $1 million to $2 million.
De Queiroz is also facing federal charges for possessing a firearm as a non-citizen of the United States, and is currently being held at the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility in Central Falls, Rhode Island.
