A Bridgeport officer is being praised for thwarting a murder plan by five suspects to kill two people in the Green Homes Housing Complex, according to police.

 

The suspects were first spotted at the complex on Wednesday night, where they allegedly fired shots at two people and missed them both.

 

Police say the suspects proceeded to lead officers on a high-speed chase. The chase ended around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, when the suspects' Honda CRV crashed into a squad car at the intersection of South Avenue and Iranistan Avenue.

 

Officials say that a .38-caliber pistol, a .22-caliber revolver, a .45-caliber handgun and a ski mask were found inside the suspects' car. Officers arrested Reginald Reese, of Bridgeport, along with four minors who were inside the vehicle. Reese's bond has been set at $100,000.

 

"Our officers are very attentive and keen to these areas, particularly when they hear gunfire, they respond immediately. And this quick response by this officer, it prevented somebody being hurt, somebody being killed," says Capt. A.J. Perez, Bridgeport Police Department.

Bridgeport resident Bill Jackson says he was shocked to learn about the incident, but would not be surprised if it was gang-related.

Police say they have evidence showing that the suspects were planning to commit murder.
