The theft of a police car responding to the Southport train station fire may have given Fairfield police a lead in the case.

The fire is still being investigated as a possible arson case. Fairfield police officials say the cruiser was stolen when an officer arrived to assist firefighters.

The vehicle was found undamaged in Westport fifteen minutes later. Police say they are inspecting the car for fingerprints or any evidence to determine if it was used as a getaway vehicle, but no concrete evidence linking it to the fire has been found yet.

The Art/Space Gallery located inside the station is currently looking for alternative spaces to relocate upcoming exhibits. Gallery co-founder Florence Zolan says almost all 40 paintings were saved by firefighters, but that the ordeal is still a tragic event.

?It was a beautiful space, and it?s really heartbreaking that it?s not there anymore,? says Zolan.
