A Darien man plummeted to his death while skiing with his brother at a Vermont ski resort, police say.
Andrew Hryb, 36, of Darien, was killed Feb. 29 at Stowe Mountain Resort in Vermont when he fell 220 feet down an ice climbing area, officials say.
Vermont state police say Hryb and his brother had gone out of bounds and into the woods from Stowe Mountain Resort, and became disoriented while attempting to find their way out.
They traveled an estimated 1.5 to 2 miles from Sensation Quad lift at Spruce Peak through the woods before coming to an ice climbing route known as Doug's Route.
Police say it appears Hryb lost his footing while trying to look over the edge of the cliff and fell.
Hryb's body was recovered after a two-hour search.
Police say his brother was not injured, and that the two were reported to be avid skiers who were familiar with
the Stowe Mountain Resort.
