A man from Darien is facing animal cruelty charges after police say a dog died in his care and several others were found in deplorable conditions.
It happened at the suspect’s home on Hoyt Street, which was listed on the internet as ‘Terry's House of Pets.’
According to police, Terrance Burns, 44, operated an illegal kennel out of his home where the golden retriever died from overheating.
Police say Burns turned himself in after several allegations against him, which include abuse, unsanitary conditions and neglect.
The investigation started in July based off an anonymous tip, with a few customers later saying their animals had acted differently when they came home from the kennel.
"The area where the dogs were kept was dark,” says Det. James Palmieri. “There was animal excrement and urine all over the place. They were kept in cramped cages."
Burns was released on a $25,000 bond.
The courts say he cannot operate any kennel or care for any more animals.
He's due back in court next week.
