A school bus carrying children crashed into a stone wall and then a tree in Westport, police say.
The incident happened on Sylvan Road North and Orchard Hill Road around 8:15 a.m. Friday.
Police say the bus veered off the roadway striking a traffic sign, stone wall and large tree causing significant front-end damage.
The bus driver was trapped inside of the bus and needed to be extricated, police say. The driver was transported to Norwalk Hospital with leg injuries.
Police say the children on board only suffered minor injuries and none of them required to be transported to the hospital.
The bus was headed to Kings Highway Elementary School when it crashed.
Witnesses say they heard a loud crash and saw the bus smashed into a tree.
Many motorists pulled over after the crash and boarded the bus to help assist children off of the school bus. News 12 Connecticut Chief Photographer Frank Rosen, who lives nearby, said a nurse jumped into action until paramedics arrived.
