A college student was struck by a car in Fairfield Sunday and rushed to the hospital with a broken neck.
Police say early Sunday morning 20-year-old Fairfield University sophomore Jack Cleverley was struck by a drunken driver while walking along Fairfield Beach Road with a group of people.
While authorities say a drunken driver is to blame for the accident, members of a safety committee in Fairfield say there are other issues plaguing the roads by Fairfield Beach.
Fairfield First Selectman Ken Flatto agrees alcohol isn't the sole cause of many car accidents near Fairfield Beach. He says excessive speed is an issue. Many residents also say pedestrians constantly walk on the street.
Cleverley is in satisfactory condition at St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport.
