Bridgeport police have identified the woman who was fatally struck by a motorcycle Thursday night.
Patricia Stephenson, 78, was crossing the street in her neighborhood at the time of the accident.
It happened at the intersection of State Street and Park Avenue around 9 p.m.
Police say Stephenson was outside the crosswalk when she was hit by a speeding motorcycle. She was rushed to the hospital but later died.
Police say the motorcycle driver was also seriously hurt from the impact of the crash, which sent him flying from his bike. He is being treated at the hospital but is expected to recover.
"Right now we're just collecting a lot of evidence that's coming forth from witnesses and other avenues," said Sgt. Gabe Meszaros, Bridgeport police. That includes video footage from nearby.
Neighbors say the crash is heartbreaking but not surprising.
"There is an issue with motorcycles speeding through here. They come through here all the time in groups, in large groups," said Vicar Ramos.
Police wouldn't say whether the motorcycle driver was with a group or alone at the time.
The crash is under investigation.
