Detectives are investigating a sexual assault that occurred at the University of Bridgeport early Friday morning.
Police say the assault occurred inside the university's Seeley Hall, located at the corner of Marina Park Circle and Waldemere Avenue. Administrators from the university say a female student placed a call to campus security around 6 a.m.
Bridgeport police were on the scene and have confirmed that they are investigating a sexual assault. Authorities have also confirmed that the victim knew the suspect, but they will not call the case a date rape at this point.
"This is an extraordinary incident," university employee John Daley says. "I've been here since 2001 and never was there anything like this." Daley works for the university's public relations department.
According to Daly, everyone at Seeley Hall is required to sign in. School officials say the suspect was signed in, but not by the victim.
Police will not reveal the identity of the suspect, but say they know who they are looking for.
