A juvenile is facing criminal mischief changes for vandalizing the historic little red schoolhouse at Middle Gate Elementary School in Newtown.
Newtown police say on March 4, the 1850s schoolhouse, which is owned by the Newtown Historical Society, had its glass window and wooden frame destroyed.
The vandalism was discovered by a school custodian.
Police say the juvenile was issued a summons on April 1.
The suspect was able to be identified after police reviewed hours of surveillance video footage from around the school.
Police say they take vandalism against historic landmarks very seriously and confirm there has been a recent uptick in graffiti and property damage by young people.
They strongly encourage families to speak with their children about respect for the property of others.
