Officers say a man attached the device to the machine while purchasing items around 10 a.m. Wednesday. They add that he paid with a $100 bill to distract the cashier.

The man then removed the skimmer and left the store with the device in his pants pockets after being stopped by loss prevention officers.

People are advised to be aware of these devices when using an ATM along with a debit or credit card. Anything suspicious should be reported to store employees or the bank where they are using the ATM.

Police say newer "shimming" devices are currently being used to steal information on credit card ships.

Anyone with information is asked to call Financial Crimes Detective Frank Podpolucha at 203-395-6395.
