Stratford police say a man who allegedly shot and killed his niece at a birthday party has turned himself in.
Police say Michael Catchings, 21, fired two rounds at a 50th birthday party for another uncle early Sunday morning on North Avenue, critically injuring a 24-year-old man and killing 27-year-old Raenetta Catchings.
A memorial sits across the street from where the incident occurred.
Authorities have not identified the 24-year-old who was injured, but say he was an acquaintance of Raenetta Catchings. Her funeral is scheduled for Saturday.
Police say they believe the shooting stemmed from some sort of family dispute. They are continuing to investigate the case.
Michael Catchings is being held on $500,000 bond.
