Police say a man attempted to drown a woman in New Canaan Monday during a seemingly random attack.
Investigators say witnesses called 911 after seeing the man, identified as Mynor Romeo Alvarado, holding a woman's head underwater.
It happened in the area of 1037 Valley Road. Police say they arrived to find the woman sitting on the ground with the witnesses around her.
They say the victim told them the suspect hit her with his car from behind first and then tried to put her into the back of it before dragging her down the river.
Police arrested Alvarado, and the victim was taken to the hospital. He's facing attempted murder charges.
