Stratford police say two men were arrested after one displayed a gun during an argument and the other took off with it.
The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Esporta Fitness on Barnum Avenue Cutoff.
Det. Lt. Robert Burroughs said Emmanuel Rivera, 21, of Bridgeport got into an argument with another man on the basketball court then grabbed a gun from his bag. Burroughs said someone on the court intervened and management called 911. He said the responding officers took Rivera into custody outside the gym.
Burroughs said Khyree Brown, 21, of Bridgeport, took off with Rivera's bag with the gun inside when officers arrived. It's believed Rivera and Brown came to the gym together.
Police quickly located Brown near Frog Pond Lane. Burroughs said he ditched the bag behind Webster Bank.
Burroughs said the gun was loaded with the serial numbers removed. No one was hurt during the argument; it's unclear what it was about.
Rivera and Brown are facing several charges including interfering with an officer, carrying a pistol without a permit and altering a firearm.
