The victim of a drive-by shooting in Bridgeport outside a Connecticut Avenue bar has died, officials say.

The shooting happened outside Visions Sports Bar & Lounge at 456 Connecticut Ave. near Fifth Street around 9:30 a.m.

Police say Jerrell Gatewood, 34, was shot in the chest and transported to Bridgeport Hospital in critical condition. Police say they believe he was targeted, but wouldn't elaborate on a motive. 

They also say they have a description of the vehicle used in the shooting, but have not yet released that information. 

Several bullet holes could be seen on the side of the sports bar.

"I extend my heartfelt condolences to this man's family," says Police Chief AJ Perez. "I cannot bring him back, but I can definitely get justice for his family."

The fatal shooting was the city's sixth homicide this year. Authorities are urging anyone with information to call police at 203-576-7671.
