Bridgeport police are investigating two separate fatal shootings that took place seven hours apart on Monday.
The deadly shootings mark the city's second and third homicides of the year.
Police Chief Roderick Porter and Mayor Joe Ganim held a press conference Tuesday to address the shootings.
The
first shooting happened just after 2 p.m. Monday in the 900 block of William Street.
Police say they received a ShotSpotter alert and also calls from residents reporting shots had been fired. When police arrived at the scene, they say they found 26-year-old Tyheem Scales, of Naugatuck, inside a car in a parking lot. Police say Scales had been shot several times. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The
second shooting happened just before 9 p.m. Monday in the 600 block of Trumbull Avenue.
Police say 35-year-old Tyeshon King, of Bridgeport, was found unresponsive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. King was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries.
Police continue to search for the suspects and motives behind the shootings. Detectives are working several leads.
Police don't believe the two shootings are connected.
