A Fairfield officer shot and killed a man Tuesday after police say he brutally attacked his wife and three children.
The incident happened around 6 a.m. on Mountain Laurel Road, near Brookside Drive.
Police say 51-Christopher Andrews attacked his wife, Kathleen, and their three kids, and then went after a police officer with a weapon.
Officers responding to the initial 911 call approached the driveway of the home when they confronted Andrews, who was repeatedly asked to stop, police say. They say that Andrews would not stop, and one officer was forced to shoot him.
The couple's three children were taken to hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately known.
Andrews was pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital. His wife remains there in serious condition.
State police are now leading the investigation.
