Police say a firefighter who was killed on duty was fatally injured when a piece of a equipment from a firetruck broke free and struck him.
The impact caused catastrophic damage to 60-year-old Raymond Moreau’s leg. He was taken to New Britain General Hospital, where he died during surgery a short time later.
Crews say a family was inside at the time and managed to escape safely. The Red Cross is helping relocate the residents.
The Plainville Town Council will host a ceremony in honor of Ray Moreau at Plainville High School's Tinty Stadium Tuesday at 7 p.m.
