A popular Westport middle school teacher is free on bond after being arrested for allegedly inappropriately touching one of his students.

Police say 72-year-old Arthur Ellis turned himself in Thursday.

They say the investigation began in January when a student from Bedford Middle School came forward to say Ellis touched her during class time in December.

The school system says Ellis has been on leave and banned from school grounds since the allegations were made in January.
