A power outage in Fairfield left people trapped in elevators and caused a section of a major road to be closed Friday morning.
At 11:44 a.m., the Fairfield County Regional Dispatch Center received multiple 911 calls for fire alarms and reports of people trapped in elevators in several buildings in the 1200 block of Post Road. It's not clear how many people were trapped or how long they were stuck.
Once on scene, firefighters found shorting power lines to be the cause of the outage and United Illuminating was notified.
While the utility company worked to restore power, firefighters investigated the reports of smoke.
A portion of the road was closed until the scene was deemed safe by police and later reopened.
