Shots were fired Monday during what police say was an attempted robbery at a Midwood post office.
Officers responded to the scene at 1288 Coney Island Ave.
The FDNY says the call came in at 1:14 pm.
The department says there were no reported injuries, according to the FDNY.
Police say at one point, a 37-year-old woman was held at gunpoint. They say the man fired his gun but didn't hit anyone and there were no injuries.
Authorities are looking for a Black male wearing a blue helmet with a red backpack on a moped.
News 12 spoke with Jonny Setton, the manager of Fish Grill, who says the woman came running into his store after it happened.
“The poor girl that saw it happen ran in here hysterical. I mean, absolutely hysterical. Of course, I don't blame her. But yeah, it was pretty scary," said Setton.
Sources tell News 12 a person matching the description tried to rob a Western Union on Utica Avenue at gunpoint.
News 12 spoke with a man who did not want to be in camera but says he was inside the bank.
“They said, if you don't come to give me the money, I'm going to kill everybody. There was a kid in there. The kid was 12 to 14, maybe. He kept crying saying, 'don't kill me'. When he said he’s going to kill every one of us, I said today I’m going to die," he said.
Then, the man says he was able to get out of the bank, only to get into a collision with the attempted robber.
“I ran, and I took my car and then I tried to run and then he goes out, took his bike and then passed before me. And I tried to avoid him. And then we got that accident," said the man.
Sources say a gun was found on the moped rider after he got into a collision. It's unclear if the two incidents are connected.
Police have confirmed a person of interest was taken into custody in the Midwood incident.
Since the incident took place at a post office, the case is now an ongoing federal investigation.
