Stratford police say they arrested a 30-year-old man for selling stolen cars to Stratford residents on Facebook and Craigslist.

Police say in March they received two complaints from residents who said they had purchased used vehicles via the internet that turned out to be stolen vehicles.

After an extensive investigation, police obtained an arrest warrant for Tyrone Purcell, who has prior convictions for firearms possession.

On Friday, Purcell surrendered himself to police custody and was charged with forgery, identity theft, larceny and illegal possession of a license with a changed ID number.

Purcell was released from custody after posting a $75,000 bond. He's due in court on Aug. 8.
