Protestors gathered outside police headquarters in Bridgeport Tuesday to demand answers in the police shooting of a man last week.
Friends of Frederic Devon McAllister, 33, and community activists from the NAACP gathered at the rally. They believe McAllister was unarmed and the use of deadly force was not necessary.
Last Thursday, Bridgeport Police Sergeant Brian Fitzgerald shot and killed McAllister near the Success Village Housing Complex. McAllister was believed to be a suspect wanted in South Carolina. Authorities say McAllister was involved in a police chase before he crashed his SUV and fled on foot. According to investigators, Fitzgerald shot McAllister when he failed to stop. McAllister later died at the hospital.
State police are investigating the shooting. They have urged McAllister?s friends and family to be patient and let them conduct their investigation. They expect the probe to last at least four months.
