Police: Waterbury police lieutenant charged in DUI crash while off duty

An off-duty Waterbury Police lieutenant is facing DUI charges after police say he sideswiped a parked, unoccupied vehicle and fence.

A lieutenant with the Waterbury Police Department is charged with DUI following an off-duty crash in October.
Police say Lt. David Balnis was driving his pickup truck on Highland Avenue early in the morning on Oct. 30 when police said he veered off the road and sideswiped a parked, unoccupied vehicle and fence.
Balnis is due in court on Dec. 8.
