A Winchester man faces multiple charges for killing a woman earlier this week, state police say.

The Western District Major Crime Squad arrested Leon Stetson at Hartford Hospital on Thursday. He was charged with murder, home invasion and criminal violation of a protective order.

Winchester police responded to a home on Oak Street on Monday. Police say 54-year-old Carrie Stetson was pronounced dead following what they said was a domestic violence incident. Leon was seriously injured.

Police say a knife and swabs of a blood-like substance were also recovered from the home.

It's not clear what the relationship is between Leon and Carrie.

An arrest warrant says that April Leon physically assaulted Carrie. As a result, there was an active protective order effective until July 27. Leon was not allowed to contact Carrie and was ordered to stay away from her home. The warrant also claims Leon had a long history of drug use, which caused turmoil between him and Carrie.

State police say Leon was unable to post his $3 million bond. He was expected to appear for a virtual court hearing on Friday morning.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said the manner of death for Carrie was homicide.
