A Newtown resident is accused of vandalizing an Israeli flag.
It happened near the corner of Church Hill and Walnut Tree Hill roads in the Sandy Hook section of town.
Police say Sarah Stofko, 28, destroyed the flag that was on someone's property.
She was charged with criminal mischief and intimidation based on bigotry or bias.
Stofko is expected to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Dec. 21.
In a statement First Selectman Jeffrey Capeci condemned Stofko's actions.
"Newtown is a community that welcomes people, regardless of religion or race. It is how we respond to these instances that define us as a community, not the actions of any one individual," he said.
His full statement can be found on the Newtown website.
