Connecticut State Police say that a Winsted woman died Thursday afternoon after losing control of her vehicle on Route 8.
The crash happened around 12:50 p.m. in Torrington near the Winchester Town line.
Police say 52-year-old Sherry Baldwin had just passed Exit 46 on the highway when her car began to swerve from left to right for an unknown reason. Police say her car went off the side of the road, up an embankment and then flipped onto its right side.
Baldwin was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car, according to officials.
Parts of Route 8 were closed for a time while crews cleared the crash. The roadway has since reopened.
