Officials are warning residents after Stamford police charged two men with trying to scam thousands of dollars from a senior citizen.
Local officials led a presentation on fraud Tuesday at Norwalk Community College. They say trusting your gut is key to prevent becoming a victim.
Officials say the 83-year-old woman in Stamford told them two men approached her on Dunn Avenue offering to fix her garage door for $4,000. Officials say the men took the woman to the bank but it was closed.
The woman called police before the pair returned the following morning after believing that something was off.
Police arrested 35-year-old Steve Miguel and 23-year-old Anthony Miguel. Both were charged with criminal attempt at larceny and conspiracy.
A woman was scammed out of $35,000 last month for inadequate repairs on her roof, police say. They are looking to see if there are additional victims in the city.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
