The president slammed Quinnipiac's polls for missing the mark this election, leaving Quinnipiac to defend its polling operations.
"These really phony polls, I have to call them phony polls -- fake polls,” President Donald Trump said last night. "Quinnipiac, which was wrong on every occasion that I know of, had Joe Biden up by five points in Florida.”
Quinnipiac predicted Biden winning Florida with 47% of the vote. Trump won the state with 51%. In Ohio, Quinnipiac gave Biden a 4 point edge - he lost by 8. In Maine, Sen. Susan Collins was predicted to lose by double digits. She won her race.
Quinnipiac still relies on people answering the phone. Today Quinnipiac's polling director said, "We learn with each election cycle and our experts will examine our polling methods and make any necessary adjustments in future years.”
"You have to wonder at times if, in fact, they're not oversampling certain -- you know, certain parties,” commented Dr. Gary Rose, of Sacred Heart University.
Some experts say it might come down to an issue of trust, that perhaps Republicans are less likely to trust pollsters.
