A protest in Hartsdale is calling on local officials to close a pet store.
Protesters tell News 12 that the Westchester Puppies and Kittens store buys animals that are sick because they come from inhumane puppy mills.
However, current law allows for sales from breeders.
The protesters also say the store keeps puppies and kittens in a space a block away, where they can hear them crying.
The store manager chose not to comment on camera, but did say they get their animals from breeders, and that they are checked by a vet before and after arriving in the store.
They allowed our News 12 cameras to capture how the animals look in the main shop.
Police tell News 12 that according to state agencies and the SPCA, Westchester Puppies and Kittens is up to code.
However, the New York state Senate passed a bill that would end the sale of dogs, cats and rabbits in retail pet stores, putting this store's future in doubt.
If it passes the state Assembly, it will head to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's desk.
