The fourth annual Brian Cody's Overdose Awareness 5K & Recovery Festival was held in New Milford Sunday.
The event was hosted by the nonprofit Brian Cody's Brothers & Sisters Foundation.
It was founded by town residents Tony and Tracey Morrissey after their son Brian died from a drug overdose in 2019.
The goal of the event was to raise awareness about the opioid epidemic and substance use disorder.
Resources were made available for people seeking recovery.
There was also a 5K, music and kids activities.
Tony Morrissey says the festival also allowed people to start conversations and connect with others impacting by the epidemic.
"There's a lot of stigma association with substance use disorder. So, in the first year or so it was trying to cut through that and prove to folks that this a disease. Recovery is indeed possible, you just need to connect with people and resources to find those services," he says.
The foundation holds events throughout the year and provides scholarships.
