Red Cross sounds alarm on low summer blood supply

The Red Cross is urging residents to take a little time out of their summer and roll up their sleeves amid critically low blood supply levels. The Red Cross says the Northeast is facing a dangerous shortage.

The Red Cross is urging residents to take a little time out of their summer and roll up their sleeves amid critically low blood supply levels.
The Red Cross says the Northeast is facing a dangerous shortage. The organization says it needs 2,000 units of blood to get back to its normal three-to-five day supply cushion.
?With schools closed and people on vacation and out of town, blood supplies have dropped dramatically,? Wendy Blumenthal of the Red Cross says.
The Red Cross says good donors are over the age of 17, in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds.
Residents can call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE to find out where to give blood.
