A few local fire departments are taking casual Friday and putting some meaning behind it as part of a national effort to support U.S. troops.
The Stratford Fire Department instituted "Red Shirt Fridays" in honor of men and women defending the U.S. overseas. The fire department also changed its official color to red.
Firefighters say it isn't about taking a stance on any wars, but as a way to show support for troops deployed overseas and to say thank you to them.
Only a handful of fire departments in Connecticut participate, including Ridgefield.
