Redding police say they've seen an increase this year in complaints about bats in homes.
Robert Pepi says he and his wife have found three bats in their house over the last four years.
Pepi says that after finding the third one last week, he decided to install netting to keep the bats from getting back into the house.
Police say they've received more than a dozen complaints of bats in people's houses, and five of those bats tested positive for rabies.
They say any bat that comes into contact with people or pets is tested for rabies.
Police say anyone who finds a bat in their house should try to capture it without touching it and then contact the authorities.
