State police say they found human remains during a search connected to a missing Easton couple.

Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin have been missing since early August.

Police say the remains of two people were found during a search of a property at 89 Norfield Road in Weston, but they have not yet been identified.

The Norfield Road property owner Tom Kerrigan says he was doing renovations Thursday when he saw something out of place. He says he called police, and since then investigators remained on scene.

Kerrigan's property had been mostly unoccupied for several years, police say.

Police earlier named the Navins' son, Kyle Navin, as a person of interest in the case.

Prosecutors said in court that their evidence would "very strongly suggest that the defendant killed his parents." They say that evidence includes items already collected in the investigation as well as the overnight discovery in Weston.

Navin appeared before a judge Friday on unrelated federal gun charges.

Navin's lawyer asked for his client's release with an ankle monitor, but the judge ordered him held, calling him both a significant danger to the community and a flight risk.

Experts say the gun charge is a way police can keep Navin in custody as they try to build up a murder case in his parents' deaths.

The remains have been sent to the county medical examiner for identification.
