Charlie Capalbo, a hockey goalie from Fairfield, is in remission after his brother's bone marrow was a successful match.

News 12 has followed Capalbo's journey over the years. This was his second battle with cancer.

In March of 2016, Capalbo was first diagnosed. He eventually beat it after getting treatment at Yale, but then a second form of cancer was detected.

However, was able to beat the illness again with the help of his best friend and brother, Will Capablo. The young goalie says he still remembers when his brother called him earlier this year to tell him that he was eligible to be his bone marrow donor. "It only brought us closer, which is crazy to think about," he says.

Capalbo has been home in Fairfield recuperating and is in excellent spirits. He even skated a couple of times already and is hoping to play hockey again.

He says he may even start college in the spring.

Capalbo says he never imagined he would be where he is today after all he and his family have been through.

"The fact that I had no function in my left arm or both legs and I'm skating eight months later is pretty remarkable," he told News 12.

On Dec. 29, there will be a Capalbo Crushed Cancer Celebration at the Fairfield Theatre Company, with all proceeds going to the Boston Children's Hospital.
