A New Haven author has written a book about a group of Puerto Rican volunteer soldiers of the 65th Infantry Regiment.
Talia Aikens-Nuñez is a children's author pushing for diversified and multi-cultural books for the younger generation.
Her latest book is on the Borinqueneers, who served in World War I, World War II and fought in the Korean War. When she couldn't find a children's book about them, she wrote one.
"A lot of people are thankful and happy that I was able to put something like this together because it is something that took place decades ago, but it's a slice of history that everybody should know," said Aikens-Nuñez.
“Men of the 65th: The Borinqueneers of the Korean War” is available for purchase online.
