Van Cortlandt Park is under construction for the building of a filtration system and those who live in the area say the work is causing a significant leak of the city?s clean water.
A 90-foot hole that will eventually house the filtration site was recently dug, and a local assemblyman says the digging caused the water to erupt from the earth. He says the water will continue to flow indefinitely.
One resident says good water is going to waste. He also says the water, which now sits in large puddles, could attract mosquitoes and disease.
Residents also complain that the city should not make taxpayers pay for construction they believe is unnecessary. Still others complained about the noise from the construction. Though the construction on the filtration plant has not begun, residents say digging has been going on for more than a year.
