Some Norwalk residents say the softball fields at Calf Pasture Beach were in no shape for the American Softball Tournament held this weekend, despite their complaints to improve it.

Tournament officials and umpires say the fields were not in optimal condition for play and many had mud puddles and holes caused by the recent rain. Residents say Norwalk's parks and recreation department should have increased maintenance of the fields to combat the weather.

Chuck Davenport, who coaches the Tradition team from Wallingford, says he was satisfied with the maintenance work done by the city. One umpire who staffed the game told News 12 Connecticut he's seen Norwalk working hard to maintain the fields, but compared to other towns, they haven't been trained well enough to do the job correctly.
