Residents of Southwood Square met with police officers and housing officials Thursday to discuss the near-riot caught on tape a week ago.
Police say they spotted a robbery suspect and chased him Friday night. A crowd formed and a clash ensued. Residents say police used excessive force. Police say they were outnumbered by a hostile crowd. The incident was caught on tape by surveillance cameras.
A small group of neighbors met with officials behind closed doors for several hours. A larger community meeting that included NAACP leaders was supposed to be held, but at the last minute it was called off.
?There is no resolution as of yet, because tempers are still up,? resident Blondyne Mikel said. She said she would like to see the relationship between neighbors and police officers improve.
No one has filed a police brutality complaint. NAACP leaders said they filed a report to obtain the surveillance tapes. However, they said that until they see the tapes, they have no comment.
Neither police officers nor housing officials who attended the meeting had any comment.
